Tulane School of Medicine Advanced Medical Simulation
In January 2009, the Tulane School of Medicine opened the Tulane Center for Advanced Medical Simulation & Team Training. Joining medical colleges across the country, Tulane medical students began that year experiencing many procedures for the first time in simulation on robotic patients. This change in hands-on education greatly improves patient safety and allows participants to be more comfortable with each procedure before they ever work with patients.
As of 2024, we are into our 16th year of healthcare simulation and have trained more than 76,000 learners since our opening. The General Surgery and Internal Medicine residencies have both increased their integration of simulation into their education, which has increased GME use of the center to over 20%. We can’t wait to hit our 100,000th learner trained.

In 2019, we celebrate 10 years of service to the Tulane School of Medicine community and throughout the year we will highlight our many accomplishments and look towards the future of medical education and our next 10 years.
